Thank you so much to all of you who came out on Sunday to serve and have lunch at The Lighthouse. It was great to see so many of you and I know for most of you, it was your first time at the Lighthouse. There are many things that can keep us from serving out of our passions but one of the biggest obstacles is just the ability to make ourselves take that first step. So, you did it! I know many of you took the tour of the facility and I hope you caught a glimpse of how important The Lighthouse is to our city. We live in a difficult climate and in a time in our city in which there is a lot of prosperity, but for many who access services at The Lighthouse, if it wasn't there, there wouldn't be a lot of hope for long term, affordable shelter or even for short term stabilizing shelter. We know that the issues that face street involved people are as complex and unique as each individual person but I think when you sit down and have lunch and hear the stories of someone who is living it out, it puts things into perspective. Each story IS an individual story and can't be lumped together under generalizations and stereotypes.
There are many opportunities in our city to hear peoples' stories and to step into those stories when we can to serve out of our love for what God has done for us. Keep an eye on the NEWS section of the website and I'll be posting upcoming serving opportunities in a variety of capacities. Jump in where you can. Take those first steps. Find your fit. Connect to a cause.
If you are interested in volunteering more regularly at The Lighthouse, please see their Volunteering Page here. There are some great opportunities for you if you have an hour a week or a couple hours a week to give. If that didn't feel like the right fit, keep showing up! There are some different opportunities we'll be presenting in the next few weeks...and we will continue to do so. You'll know it when you step into it.
Our next two opportunities are serving with Food For the Hungry Canada at their local medical supply warehouse here in #YXE. Come out on Thursday, October 23rd or Tuesday, November 4th and see firsthand the work that Food For the Hungry Canada is doing globally. I'll bet you'll be surprised to learn what goes in and out of their warehouses right here in Saskatoon!
We'll see you Sunday at TCU Place!
